What is Meditation?

Meditation ~ the Benefits:

Meditating has several beneficial effects. It is used to help relax, it can restore health and balance, it helps one to become centered instead of side-tracked and it is also used to help one to deepen a connection to themselves, often providing insight, answers and guidance. The benefits to meditation generally come with practice, so be patient if you are new to meditation. The relaxing and calming affects, however, can be experienced early on.


Meditation ~ How to Meditate For Beginners:

* Set a standard time every day for meditation, preferably only for five minutes at day at first.

* If you have created an altar for yourself, meditating in front of your altar will help to create the intent, or purpose, of your meditation.

* The "goal" (there is no true goal; meditating has no real guidelines, directions or objectives. It is about being with yourself, being aware of yourself by giving yourself the time to be quiet, calm, and with yourself) is to quiet your mind; to stop your thoughts and feelings.

* In order to quiet your thoughts and feelings, allow yourself to "see" (eyes closed) what ever appears in your mind's eye, usually geometrical shapes, images, dots...

Why should I meditate ?

How Does it Work ?

Creating an altar puts your words in action.

Very often altars hold the purposes, or intent, of keeping a new agreement, such as being kind to one self. Any meaningful items at your altar help remind you of your intent. Common items are things like photos, meaningful trinkets, a note about what your intent is, cloth (often used as a tablecloth for the altar items), a journal, candle and incense. Just spending five minutes a day at your altar with items you chose can remind you of what is important to you, of what you wish to focus and concentrate on in your life.
