About Sensei Peterec Biography of a Successful Southpaw
Stan Peterec started
his martial arts journey at age 15 when he took up shotokan karate under the
guidance of Jim MacDonald, a sensei who taught in a small logging and fishing
town on Canada’s Vancouver Island. Observing how much his disciple had advanced
during a few short years, MacDonald encouraged him to move to a bigger city so
he could expand his martial arts horizons.
Peterec journeyed south to Victoria, British Columbia, and
continued his shotokan training under Lindon Bateson. By age 18, Peterec was
working as a bouncer at some of the roughest nightclubs in town. He
supplemented his martial arts education by attending seminars conducted by
Benny Urquidez and Bill Wallace. In fact, it was those men’s teachings that
inspired Peterec to try his hand at kickboxing.
He launched his ring career by winning a local toughman
tournament, but one thing about the experience disturbed him: He saw that he
needed to improve his punching skills. Peterec investigated several fighting
arts but then realized that he needed to look no further than Western boxing.
He credits Jack Noesgar and Wally Petrovic for raising his
boxing skills to a professional level, and Ali Babri for helping him to learn Grappling/Judo/Jujitsu,
and to this day he claims the pugilistic art is all anyone really needs for
self-defense.

Sensei Peterec
has wanted to own his own martial arts school since the age of 15. He is a
well-experienced and knowledgable instructor. Stan "The Steamer"
Peterec has an extensive background in competitve kickboxing and karate,
earning several titles:
